Former presidential candidate Ted Cruz has apparently ‘liked’ a hardcore pornography video on his official Twitter page.

The Texas senator’s verified account pressed ‘like’ on an x-rated clip from an account called “Sexual Posts” on Monday night.

The clip, which appeared in Mr Cruz’s likes, was removed about 40 minutes later.

It is not clear who was using the account at the time.

Catherine Frazier, a spokeswoman for Mr Cruz, tweeted: “The offensive tweet posted on @tedcruz account earlier has been removed by staff and reported to Twitter.”

Mr Cruz, a former solicitor general in Texas, failed in 2007 to ban sex toy sales in the state.

Last year, he revealed he had once watched hardcore pornography alongside retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor when the court was considering regulating online pornography.

During his campaign for the Republican nomination, Mr Cruz’s team inadvertently used an actor who had appeared in soft pornography in a “Conservatives Anonymous” advert.

The advert was later pulled.
