Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana announced that the state is committed to transforming Andhra Pradesh into a garbage-free state. Participating in the Swachhata Hi Seva program in Vijayawada’s KP Nagar, the minister highlighted that the government is adopting innovative methods to achieve the vision of Swachh Andhra and Swachh Bharat. He urged citizens to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and public hygiene.
The minister stated that the state will soon call for tenders under AMRUT 2.0, which will ensure that every household receives clean drinking water through tap connections within the next two years. Despite inheriting financial challenges from the previous government, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has prioritized urban development while simultaneously addressing public welfare through flagship “Super 6” schemes.
Highlighting the government’s efforts, Narayana noted that nearly 83 lakh tonnes of accumulated garbage from previous years has already been cleared, with the remaining waste to be removed in the coming days. He stressed that the state is also planning to establish six new waste-to-energy plants to ensure effective solid waste management.
The minister further pointed out that cities in countries like Japan and Singapore have set high benchmarks in cleanliness and that Andhra Pradesh is moving in the same direction. The government is also focusing on clean water supply, efficient waste management, smooth roads, and improved urban infrastructure to match public expectations.
