The Chief Minister explained that in February 1948, Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed at this sacred confluence, making it a place of deep national significance. The Gandhi Sarovar Project is being undertaken as part of the larger Musi River rejuvenation initiative aimed at restoring the river’s ecological balance and enhancing its surroundings. The Chief Minister also informed the Defence Minister about plans to develop Bapu Ghat into a world-class center symbolizing education, culture, spirituality, and environmental awareness. Chandrababu Naidu conducted an emergency teleconference with all District Collectors, SPs, and senior officials, directing them to remain on high alert. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert, warning that the cyclone will cross the coast near Kakinada on October 28, bringing wind speeds of 90–110 kmph and heavy rainfall between 80–100 mm across districts from Srikakulam to Tirupati. CM Naidu emphasized zero tolerance for loss of life or property, instructing officials to take advance precautionary measures and implement disaster management plans immediately. He ordered NDRF and SDRF teams to be deployed in vulnerable zones and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted essential services—including drinking water, electricity, telecom networks, and civil supplies.
