Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy unveiled the State Horticulture Development Plan–2035, outlining a roadmap to expand fruit and vegetable cultivation and enhance productivity across the state. The plan, prepared by the Telangana Horticultural University, targets an expansion of 1.32 lakh acres for fruits and 2.45 lakh acres for vegetables over the next five years. It estimates that an investment of ₹921.40 crore for cultivation and ₹942.50 crore for drip irrigation could yield up to fourfold returns for farmers. The plan emphasizes integrating university-developed technologies to achieve an annual production value of ₹1,341 crore. Districts suitable for expanding fruit crops like guava, papaya, banana, pomegranate, dragon fruit, and custard apple, and vegetables like tomato, brinjal, carrot, onion, and leafy greens, were identified based on soil and climate conditions. The strategy promotes off-season vegetable cultivation, shade-net farming, and protected agriculture to ensure year-round availability. To enhance yields, the plan calls for custom hiring centers at every mandal to facilitate access to farm machinery, and the use of weather-based advisories to minimize crop losses. It also proposes establishing cold storage units, pack houses, and refrigerated transport to reduce post-harvest losses. For export promotion, an integrated pack house will be set up near Hyderabad International Airport. The government aims to empower Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to manage production, marketing, and collective sales. A marketing intelligence cell will be established jointly by the Horticulture University and Agricultural Marketing Department to provide farmers with real-time price and demand forecasts, ensuring better income and reduced wastage.

New Delhi/Hyderabad, September 23: Telangana has presented its final arguments before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II (KWDT-II), demanding a fair share of 70% (763 TMC) of the total 1050 TMC allocated in the Krishna basin. Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who personally attended the proceedings, said this was a historic moment as a sitting minister appeared before the tribunal, showing how seriously the Congress government is pursuing the matter. Uttam detailed Telangana’s claim based on scientific and internationally accepted parameters such as catchment area, drought-prone zones, cultivable land, and population. He argued that Telangana is entitled to 555 TMC at 75% dependability, 43 TMC at 65% dependability, 120 TMC from average flows, and 45 TMC through Godavari diversions—totaling 763 TMC. He accused Andhra Pradesh of diverting a large share of its allocation outside the basin, violating principles of equitable distribution. Criticizing the previous BRS government, Uttam said it had agreed to only 299 TMC for Telangana while conceding 512 TMC to Andhra Pradesh, calling it a betrayal of farmers and drought-prone regions. The present Congress government has officially reopened the case, rejecting the earlier agreement and presenting stronger arguments before the tribunal led by Justice Brijesh Kumar. “This is not just a legal battle but a fight for Telangana’s farmers and the future of its drought-prone areas,” Uttam asserted. He also strongly opposed Karnataka’s plan to raise the Almatti dam height, warning it would harm Telangana’s water availability. “We will fight this in the Supreme Court with full force. Telangana will not allow a single drop of its rightful share to be compromised,” he said. Assuring people of Telangana, Uttam emphasized that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is closely monitoring the case, and the government will never back down until justice is achieved.

Medaram, September 15: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited the Sammakka-Saralamma temples at Medaram on Tuesday and announced the government’s commitment to redevelop the historic shrines with durable stone structures, inspired by the architectural grandeur of the Ramappa temple. Calling it his privilege to oversee the reconstruction of the sacred gaddelu (temple platforms), the CM emphasized that true development means improving the living standards of tribal communities, not just building concrete structures. Highlighting the government’s tribal welfare initiatives, the CM said that an additional 22,000 Indiramma houses have been sanctioned for tribals. He criticized past governments for neglecting tribal needs and said the present administration is determined to correct historic injustices. He also pointed out that while thousands of crores are sanctioned for Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh, the Medaram Maha Jatara — one of the largest tribal festivals in the world — deserves similar attention from the Centre. Revanth Reddy unveiled designs for the temple expansion, directing officials to ensure that all works are completed within 100 days, well before the upcoming Maha Jatara. Plans include expansion of the gaddelu, improved temple infrastructure, and water conservation in the Jampanna vagu stream. The CM stressed that the new stone structures will endure for centuries, preserving the glory of Sammakka and Saralamma for future generations. Earlier, CM Revanth Reddy offered 68 kilograms of gold to the deities as a token of devotion. He also held a review with priests, tribal representatives, and officials, taking their suggestions into account before finalizing the redevelopment plan. Ministers Seethakka, Konda Surekha, Adluri Laxman, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy accompanied the CM during the visit.
